Hanif asks about reports on source of income and disability intersections
Hanif asks whether CCHR is working on reports about source of income and disability discrimination. Kamuf Ward says CCHR does educational materials and is working on a Renters' Rights Guide, and Hanif encourages more research on the intersection.
Thank you, Councilmember Kavan.
I want to come back to the question around source of income discrimination and disability discrimination.
Are there any reports in the works by CCHR on the topic?
So I think in general, we do a lot of kind of educational materials, less kind of studies or reports on kind of trends that are happening.
We have a lot of nonprofit colleagues who are looking, and Source of Income in particular is one of those areas.
Unlock NYC is a close partner of the commission, but we have been thinking about and working on Renters'Rights Guide, which would cover kind of a host of these
protections and some of the ways that they intersect.
Got it.
I would certainly love to see more just discourse and research on
the intersections between source of income discrimination and disability discrimination as something that's not getting enough attention and just the disproportionate amount of New Yorkers who are disabled, who are experiencing
a source of income discrimination.
And I know in the past, CCHR would do these kinds of reports that did studies and really laid groundwork on the kind of narrative New York City should be thinking about on this topic.
So that's putting out an idea to you all.
