Hanif reads Julie Won statement on Autistic Pride Day
Hanif reads a statement from Council Member Julie Won supporting Resolution 510. The statement thanks Chairs Hanif and Nurse and credits autistic self-advocate Gary Oye-Steven for sparking the bill.
And now I will read a statement that was provided by my colleague, Councilmember Julie Wan, on her bill.
Thank you, Chairs Hanifa Nurse, for convening this hearing.
I'm honored to have my bill, Resolution 510, heard at this hearing for the Committee on Disabilities and Committee on Civil and Human Rights.
This resolution will declare June 18th annually as Autistic Pride Day in New York City.
I want to take a moment to thank Gary O.E.
Stephen, whose outreach and advocacy was the spark that got this bill drafted.
Gary, an autistic self-advocate and a proud New Yorker, reached out to my office because he believed this city should formally recognize this day, and he is right.
