Banks questions Citi Bike placement and Gateway ferry options
Banks asks about Citi Bike site selection and parking loss; Regan says it is outside his expertise; Banks urges EDC and DOT to consider ferry for Gateway.
And I know that there's been a large expansion of city bikes in my district as well.
I guess this question would be for DOT.
Recently, the 42nd Council District has had a significant increase of city bike stations, installations throughout the district.
Including locations where residents and I believe they're
or limited ridership demand, as well as there's locations that have resulted in loss of substantial amount of parking.
What data did DOT use to select these locations and how were those factors weighed during the site selection process?
Thank you.
Yeah, city bikes are outside of my area of expertise.
I'll have to get back to you with city bike information.
I have a boatload of questions on that, but please, if we will get those questions to you, because when we're talking about transportation, it can't just be done through city bikes, even though we are supporters of making sure that there's
access to city bikes.
But I think the issue goes back to placement.
And with the, obviously the development that is scheduled to take place on the East Flathurst side of the district, we definitely want to make sure that
other options of transportation are made available.
And that's the reason why we're looking at, obviously, on the Gateway side, which has produced a large portion of affordable housing throughout the entire city, that it's also considered a transportation desert.
So it would be prudent upon EDC, DOT, to definitely take into consideration possibly an expansion of transportation.
looking at possibly putting a ferry there.
We are big supporters of obviously the ferry requests from Councilmember Mercedes Narcisse,
but I think it would make sense to also take into consideration the gateway area and the need to expand transportation and also other transportation options in that part of my district.
We look forward to working with you.
We want to make sure that we want to be partners on this issue because it is important to our constituents, especially when we're talking about more development coming.
To the district and existing infrastructure issues that have not been addressed, especially when it comes to transportation.
And we want to make sure that's a priority so our residents can be a part of this expansion, whether it's in housing, transportation, across the board.
We can't be left behind and we refuse to be left behind.
So again, thank you so much.
Thank you.
