Chair Avilés Questions MOIA Staff Lines Housed Under Other Agencies
Chair Alexa Avilés questions the structure of having MOIA staff lines housed under other agencies' budgets while executing MOIA's core mission.
I'm sorry?
Uh DSS.
Okay.
Mayor's office.
The mayor's office, okay.
Yes, got it.
And this is all still with the same baseline budget of 781.962.
Well, um, so um our lines overall they're spread throughout um, you know, they're housed at uh different agencies over at the mayor's office.
We have uh five lines that are currently housed there, and those uh in the three vacancies that we spoke about, that's where those are, and that's the 700.
Um sorry, the um, yeah, the 780 uh thousand dollar budget is specifically uh for the mayor's office, but we do have other lines that are housed under other agencies.
While that's the case, uh the employees uh do sit within our office, right?
And do carry out uh Moya's uh you know work uh you know, but they're essentially uh you know on payroll on other um agencies.
This is where it gets confusing.
This is where I'm not really understanding.
So we'll get into that because I'm I'm trying to understand, like um, so then as far as directives, mission who tells them what they should be doing on a day-to-day basis.
Is that coming from a different agency?
Is it coming from your vision?
Um if it's coming from your vision, then it makes sense that it was it's your staff, right?
If it's coming from DSS or DCAS, then it's it's their staff.
Yeah, chair, you raise a very great question, and and we're trying to demystify it.
So I apologize if if we're adding to the confusion.
The the staff that are currently at Moya, um, even if their budget comes from a different agency, they are executing the work and the mission of Moya.
They are physically in Moya's offices.
Um I I see them, I interact with them.
Their core responsibilities are to um you know uh implement our programs, our policies.
Um so it uh the total PS budget, you know, in across the agencies, including the the mayor's office, is about 5.3 million for staffing that that implement our program and our work.
